Achinet or Achineche was the name given by the indigenous Guanches to the island of Tenerife.[citation needed] The inhabitants of this island were the Guanches that comes from wa-n-Achinech (the Achinech), i.e. the man who is in Tenerife.

The place name "Chenet" bears similarities to the Egyptian word "Kemet" which was the name that the Ancient Egyptians gave to their country.
