The American International School in Egypt (AISE), a co-educational college preparatory school in Greater Cairo. Its East Campus, the main campus, is in New Cairo, Cairo,[1] while the West Campus is in Sheikh Zayed City, 6th of October City.[2]

It opened its doors to students in 1990. Nearly 1500 students from 41 countries attend school at the main campus. The school’s environment is American. Approximately 80% of the student body is Egyptian, 10% are US citizens, and the remaining 10% are other nationalities.[3]

The new campus at AIS-West extends educational opportunities for students living in Egypt. The West Campus has been built on a 31,000 square meter plot of land at The Greens Compound (owned by Dorra Group) in Sheikh Zayed City.

AIS Egypt is part of Esol Education organization (formerly called ESOL - Educational Services Overseas Limited).

Accreditation

AIS Egypt is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA).[4] AIS’s American Diploma is not recognized by the Egyptian Ministry of Education, and so students from grade 1 and above start taking ministry subjects (one class Religious Studies/week, one class Egyptian Social Studies/week, and three classes of Arabic/week). When Arab students graduate, in addition to the American Diploma and the IB Diploma, they take the Egyptian General Certificate of Secondary Education. AISE is an IB World School,[5][6] and is also accredited by the European Council of International Schools, the Council of International Schools,[7] the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools, the Mediterranean Association of International Schools, and the Associations for the Advancement of International Education.[8]

Curriculum

AIS Egypt offers a full Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 American curriculum using US textbooks and materials, taught in English by certified North American teachers and leading to the American High School Diploma. The curriculum follows U.S. Nationa Standards as well as Virginia State Standards and is designed to prepare students for entry into colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and beyond.

Qualified students in Grades 11 and 12 are offered the opportunity to earn a full International Baccalaureate Diploma[5] or IB Certificates. AIS Egypt also offers AP subjects in high school years.

AIS West offers places to students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 10, but will add a new high school grade each year, with the first class graduating in 2014.

Counseling and English support

Students who are in the process of acquiring English as a second or additional language are fully supported by EAL (English as an Additional Language) professionals.

Faculty

The teachers employed by AIS Egypt are certified in North America or Canada, with more than 50% having post-graduate degrees. The exception is native speakers of French and Arabic who teach language classes.

Extracurricular activities

Extra-curricular activities include Student Council, Drama Club, Roots and Shoots Recycling Club, Model United Nations (MUN), and service organizations such as AIS4Egypt and Youth for Change. AIS offers junior and varsity sports' teams for both boys and girls.

AIS is a member of OASIS Activities Conference (OAC),[9] allowing its students to participate in various athletic and nonathletic tournaments with many other regional schools.
