The Association of the Women of the Islamic Republic (Persian: جمعیت زنان جمهوری اسلامی‎‎, Jam’iat-e Zanan-e Jomhouri-e Islami) is an Iranian reformist political party. It is the first officially registered party of the Islamic Republic of Iran.[1]

History and profile

The party was established 1987.[1] The secretary-general of the party has been Zahra Mostafavi, the daughter of Ayatollah Khomeini.[1] Fatemeh Karroubi, wife of Mehdi Karroubi, is among its notable members.[1]

The party supported Mohammad Khatami in the 1997 and 2001 presidential elections.[1] Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was supported by the party in the 2005 elections.[1] Mir-Hossein Mousavi enyoyed the support of the party in the 2009 elections.[1] The party’s main objective was to improve women’s rights in Iran and various international conferences for this aim were organized by the group.[1]
