    Athens 2004 has received generally mixed to negative reviews from critics. Aggregating review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the PlayStation 2 version a 65.27% and 61/100[1][3] and the PC version a 37.50% and 41/100.[2][4] IGN gave the game a 4.5/10, criticising the game's ever-repeating button mashing and overall easiness of the game.[6] GameSpy gave the game 4 out of 5 starts, praising the game's varying gameplay.[5]
