Most Azerbaijanis living in Germany have emigrated there from the south of Turkey, Iran, and Azerbaijan.
The first settlers from Azerbaijan in Germany were Iranian Azerbaijanis; other Azerbaijanis came from their birthplace in Turkey and began to settle in Germany in the 1960s, when the Azerbaijani population in Germany amounted to 190,000 people. A second wave of migration of Azerbaijanis manifested itself during and after the Nagorno-Karabakh War.
