Aznakayevsky District (Russian: Азнака́евский райо́н; Tatar: Cyrillic Азнакай районы, Latin Aznaqay rayonı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the republic. The area of the district is 2,143.3 square kilometers (827.5 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Aznakayevo[2] (which is administratively not a part of the district).[8] Population: 29,694 (2010 Census);[5] 31,273 (2002 Census);[9] 27,747 (1989 Census).[10]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Aznakayevsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[2] The town of Aznakayevo serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of republic significance[2]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[8]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Aznakayevsky Municipal District, with the town of republic significance of Aznakayevo being incorporated within it as Aznakayevo Urban Settlement.[4]
