Early life

Bahar was born in Tehran, Iran, to a devout Persian Jewish family. She moved with her parents and sister, Saba Soomekh, to Los Angeles, California, United States in 1979,[1] to escape the Iranian Revolution.[2] Soomekh attended Sinai Akiba Academy and Beverly Hills High School,[3] where she played the violin in the school orchestra. In 1997, Soomekh earned a B.A. in environmental studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she also did some Theater. Following her graduation, Soomekh worked as a sales motivational manager at Showtime Networks [4] while studying at the Shari Shaw Acting Studio in the evenings.[5]

Career

In the beginning of her acting career, Soomekh guest starred on several television programs, including JAG and 24. Soomekh's breakthrough role came as Dorri in the Academy Award-winning movie for Best Picture, Crash. Following her success in Crash, People's magazine listed Soomekh as one of 100 Most beautiful people in the world[citation needed]. She followed up with roles in Syriana and Mission: Impossible III. In 2006, she had a leading role, as Dr. Lynn Denlon, in the horror film Saw III. Soomekh had a recurring role as Margo in the television series Day Break and guest appearances on shows such as Ghost Whisperer and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Her last film role was in Just like a Woman (2012 film). After a decade as an actress, Soomekh is now pursuing a real estate career in order to stay closer to her family in Los Angeles.[6]

Personal life

Family

Bahar married Clayton Frech, a business manager,[7] who converted to Judaism when marrying her in 2001.[8] The couple has three sons. Their oldest, Ezra, was born in 2005 without his left knee and fibula, having a shortened left ulna, and only one functional finger on his left hand, requiring multiple extensive surgeries to treat.

Activism

The Jewish teaching of tikkun olam, to heal the world, guides Bahar's life. She works on environmental and children's causes. Bahar also uses her name to be involved with organizations such as the Green Cross and Rainforest Action Network[citation needed]. With her husband, she launched the T.O. Productions to make movies about environmental and social issues.[9]
