Baltasinsky District (Russian: Балтаси́нский райо́н; Tatar: Cyrillic Балтач районы, Latin Baltaç rayonı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the north of the republic. The area of the district is 1,094.5 square kilometers (422.6 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Baltasi.[2] Population: 33,879 (2010 Census);[5] 32,967 (2002 Census);[8] 29,004 (1989 Census).[9] The population of Baltasi accounts for 22.8% of the district's total population.[5]
