Barrytown is a town in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island. Barrytown sits on State Highway 6 and is 21 kilometres (13 mi) north of Runanga. Punakaiki is 16 kilometres (10 mi) further north. The town is near the southern end of Pakiroa Beach.[1][2]
The population of Barrytown and its surrounds was 225 in the 2006 Census, an increase of 33 from 2001.[3]
Barrytown was settled in the 1860s and was a centre for gold dredging.[4]
Barrytown School is a coeducational full primary (years 1–8) school with a decile rating of 4 and a roll of 13.[5]
