Bath Electric Tramways operated a tramway service in Bath, Somerset between 1902 and 1939.[1]

History

The company was a subsidiary of British Electric Traction, and it took over the Bath Tramways Company in July 1902. A programme of electrification followed and the first electric service ran on 2 January 1904.

Lines ran to Combe Down, Oldfield Park, Twerton, Newton St Loe, Weston and Bathford.

The depot was located in Beehive Yard off Walcot Street at ST 7512 6523.

Fleet

The company fleet was blue and yellow. There were 55 tramcars all purchased in 1903 and 1904 from G.F. Milnes & Co.

Closure

The company was taken over by the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Company in December 1936.

Some sections of the tramway were abandoned starting in 1938 with the final closures on 6 May 1939.

Proposal to re-introduce

in 2006 a private group proposed their re-introduction.[2] In 2015 a further initiative was under discussion.[3][4]
