Beekeeping in Ukraine is a major economic activity. 700,000 people, 1.5% of the Ukrainian population, are engaged in producing honey. Ukraine is also ranked as the number one country in Europe by production of honey, producing 75 thousand metric tons annually, and among the top five countries in the world.[1] Ukraine produces the greatest quantity of honey per capita in the world.[2]

In 2014, Ukraine's gross honey production was 66,500 tonnes, of which 36,300 tonnes of honey was exported.[3]

The 2013 World Beekeeping Congress was held on October, 2013, in Kiev, Ukraine.[4]

Petro Prokopovych (1775–1850, Ukrainian: Петро Прокопович) was the founder of commercial beekeeping. He introduced novelties in traditional beekeeping that allowed great progress in the practice. Among his most important inventions was a hive frame in a separate honey chamber of his beehive. He also invented a crude queen excluder between brood and honey chambers.[5][6]

The Ukraine National Beekeeping Museum located in Kiev is one of the world's best and largest beekeeping museums. It contains many displays about beekeeping history, hive types, smoker display, beekeeping art hall and other areas of beekeeping. On the grounds are a library and laboratory for beekeeping.
