Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate or Bidhannagar City Police (Bengali:বিধাননগর পুলিশ কমিশনারেট), established on 20 January 2012, is a police force with primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within Bidhannagar or Salt Lake area, Northern and North-Eastern fringes of Kolkata.[1] The Commissionerate is part of the West Bengal Police, and is under the administrative control of Home Ministry of West Bengal. It was formed after bifurcation of the North 24 Parganas Police District, and has nine police stations under its jurisdiction. Javed Shamim has been appointed as the Commissioner of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.[2]

Structure and jurisdiction

The Police commissionerate is situated at Bidhannagar, and is divided into two divisions- Bidhannagar and Airport.[3] The commissionerate is responsible for law enforcement over an area of 110 km2 area with nine police stations under it.[3] The commissionerate is headed by the Commissioner of Police,Shri Rajeev kumar (RR 1989) who is an Indian Police Service officer in the rank of Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The commissioner is assisted by a joint commissioner. There are two additional deputy commissioners for the two divisions.[3] Other departments, including the detective department and the special branch wing are headed by Additional deputy commissioners, who are in the rank of additional superintendent of police.[3] The police stations are headed by an Inspector.
