The discography of Biffy Clyro, a Scottish alternative rock band, consists of six studio albums, two live albums, seven compilation albums, five extended plays (EPs), 29 singles, 27 music videos and six other appearances. Biffy Clyro were formed in 1995 in Kilmarnock by vocalist and guitarist Simon Neil, bassist James Johnston and drummer Ben Johnston.[1] They released their debut EP thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow in 2000 through Electric Honey and later signed with Beggars Banquet Records.[2] The band's debut full-length album Blackened Sky was released in March 2002, reaching number 25 on the Scottish Albums Chart and number 78 on the UK Albums Chart.[3][4] The Vertigo of Bliss followed in 2003,[2] with the album's single "Questions and Answers" the band's first to reach the top ten of the Scottish Singles Chart.[5] The band's third and final album with Beggars Banquet, Infinity Land, was released the following year.[2] The singles "Glitter and Trauma", "My Recovery Injection" and "Only One Word Comes to Mind" all reached the top ten in Scotland, as well as the top 30 on the UK Singles Chart.[5][4]
After a number of years touring, Biffy Clyro returned in 2007 with Puzzle on 14th Floor Records, which topped the Scottish Albums Chart and reached number two in the UK.[3][4] The album was certified platinum in the UK and spawned three UK top-20 singles: "Saturday Superhouse", "Living Is a Problem Because Everything Dies" and "Folding Stars".[6][5] After the release of lead single "Mountains" in 2008 and second single "That Golden Rule" in 2009, both of which topped the Scottish Singles Chart,[5] the band released their fifth album Only Revolutions in 2009.[2] The album reached number four in Scotland,[3] number three in the UK,[4] and has since been certified double platinum in the UK.[6] An additional four singles from Only Revolutions reached the Scottish top 20.[5] Double album Opposites was released in 2013, which was the first album by the band to top the UK Albums Chart (it also reached number one in Scotland and charted in several other regions).[4][3]
In addition to their studio albums, Biffy Clyro have also released two live albums – Revolutions: Live at Wembley was released in 2011 and reached the top ten in Scotland and the UK,[3][4] and Opposites: Live from Glasgow was released in 2013[7] – and several compilation albums, including Similarities in 2014, which reached number 23 in Scotland and number 28 in the UK.[3][4] The band have also contributed several songs to external compilation albums, including cover versions of "Buddy Holly" by Weezer,[8] "Umbrella" by Rihanna,[9] "Love Sex Magic" by Ciara,[10] "Fight for This Love" by Cheryl Cole,[11] "We Built This City" by Starship,[12] and "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk.[13]
