The Big Burns Supper (launched in 2011) is an annual contemporary arts festival held in Dumfries in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Featuring events and performances in music, theatre, dance, film and visual arts as well as interactive and children’s events, the 2012 festival featured over 2000 performers in 50 venues throughout the town.[1] As a result, the festival has been dubbed "The World’s Biggest Burns Night Celebration". [2]

Events

The name "Big Burns Supper" refers to the festival’s 3 day duration over the Burns Night weekend, when the birth and work of Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns is celebrated across the world at gatherings known as Burns suppers. The festival itself is inspired by the life and work of the poet, who is buried in Dumfries, and the festival actively encourages new and innovative artists to participate. [1] Performances and events do not have to relate to the work of Robert Burns.

Festivals

The 2012 festival took place on 27 -28 January and featured artists including Eddi Reader, Frisky & Mannish and Finding Albert. The 2013 festival will run for 3 days from 25 - 28 January
