Blackie is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31.[1] It is located approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) southeast of Calgary on Highway 799.

History

It was named after John Stuart Blackie.[2] Previously incorporated as a village on December 30, 1912,[3] Blackie dissolved to hamlet status on August 31, 1997.[4]

Demographics

As a designated place in the 2011 census, Blackie had a population of 343 living in 138 of its 149 total dwellings, a 0.3% change from its 2006 population of 342. With a land area of 0.74 km2 (0.29 sq mi), it had a population density of 464/km2 (1,200/sq mi) in 2011.[5]
