Anvil to ground lightning strike

A bolt from the blue is a form of lightning that strikes out of an apparently cloudless sky. In fact, it actually originates from the anvil cloud atop a thunderstorm which may be as far as thirty miles away.[1] It carries around ten times the current of an ordinary bolt of lightning and has a positive charge while most other lightning has a negative one. This commonly is known as positive lightning.

Bolts from the blue are noted for the danger, because it can occur farther away from the main storm so it is harder to notice.[2]
