Boomerang is a television channel featuring classic cartoons, notably from the Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Animation library, and selected cartoons from the Cartoon Network Studios library. This is a version of the channel that is broadcast in Middle East, Africa, Greece and Cyprus. All Boomerang programming is available in English. From October 2011, Boomerang is also available with Greek soundtracks. Some Boomerang programmes have Arabic language soundtracks for viewers in the Middle East.[1]

History

The channel was launched on 5 June 2005 as a TV channel in Eastern Europe (in English), Poland (in Polish) and Hungary (only selected shows in Hungarian) with a lot of former Cartoon Network and Hanna-Barbera shows.

The African website has launched on 23 June 2010.[2]

From October 2010, the channel also started to broadcast selected shows in Romanian.

From October 12, 2011, the Central and Eastern Europe feed was separated from Europe, Middle East, Africa and Greece and Cyprus having its own schedule (see Boomerang). From then, Cartoonito, a pre-school block, was added to both feeds, which was later dropped (on both feeds).

However, the Middle East, Africa, Greece and Cyprus (including some operators in the Czech Republic) continued to carry the EMEA version of the channel.

Starting November 1, all the operators in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic now carry the Boomerang (CEE) version of the channel, leaving Greece as the only European country where the channel is broadcast. In the Netherlands (and Flanders), however, this is only a temporary measure, since a new localised version of the channel will be launched in early 2015.
