Bryggens Museum was built in 1976. The architect behind the work was Øivind Maurseth, who also designed the Radisson SAS hotel nearby. The museum was built on the site of a fire that occurred in Bryggen in Bergen, Norway in 1955.[1]

Remains have been uncovered by archaeological excavations on the site of the fire. Many of the remains now form the basis of the modern museum and are permanently exhibited. However, the museum also has changing exhibits. Bryggens Museum has been part of Bergen City Museum since 2005.
