Professor Carlo Fonseka is a leading intellectual in Sri Lanka. He is known for his activism for being an outspoken critic of smoking.[1] He is serving as the chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council from 2012 to 2017.[2]

Early life

Carlo Fonseka was born on 4 March 1933 in Colombo.[1]

Education

He received his primary and secondary education from Maris Stella College, Negombo and at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. In 1960 he received his MBBS (Ceylon) with a first class from the University of Colombo and completed postgraduate degree from University of Edinburgh in 1966. In 1999 Prof. Fonseka was awarded a Master of Arts from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
