Carlo Ilari (born December 12, 1991) is an Italian football inside forward, who currently plays for Catanzaro in the Italian Lega Pro, on loan from four-times defending Serie A champions, Juventus.

Club career

Ascoli Calcio

Born in Ancona, Italy, Ilari began his footballing career within the youth system of nearby club, Ascoli Calcio, who in his early career, were playing their football in the Italian Serie B and later the Serie A. After several seasons within the Tuscan club's youth system, Ilari was finally promoted to the first team for parts of the 2009–10 Serie B season, in which Ascoli finished 16th in the league standings, narrowly avoiding relegation by just two positions. Ilari made his professional debut that season, and in his second appearance for the club, he managed his first career professional goal in the 66th minute of a fixture versus Crotone. Following an impressive season, Ilari was heavily linked with a transfer away from Ascoli, with Juventus and other Serie A clubs linked with his signature.

Juventus

Ilari officially transferred to Juventus on 31 July 2010, in a player exchange deal. He was purchased in a co-ownership deal for €500,000. The negotiations also saw 15-year-old midfielder Lorenzo Marchionni transfer to Juventus, while winger, Simone Esposito transferred to Ascoli on a season-long loan deal. Ilari played with the Juventus youth squad during his first season, as expected. On 19 June 2011, the co-ownership agreement between Ascoli and Juventus was renewed, however, the midfielder would spend the 2011–12 campaign in Serie B with Ascoli playing 10 matches in the league. He again returned to Juventus at the conclusion of their undefeated 2011-12 Serie A championship before being loaned out to Lega Pro Prima Divisione side FeralpiSalò. He regularly appeared in the club's starting line-up throughout the 2012–13 campaign playing 23 matches and scoring 2 goals, before returning to Turin on 21 June 2013 after Juventus and Ascoli failed to reach an agreement in regard to his co-ownership deal. The bid thus went into blind auctions, in which Juventus' bid proved higher.

In the season 2013–14 Ilari was transferred on loan to Lega Pro team Barletta, and notably changed his position from central midfielder to inside forward and sometimes central striker. He played 26 matches scoring 5 goals for his club that closed the 2013-14 Lega Pro Prima Divisione in the 14th position. He returned to Juventus on 30 June 2014, before being loaned out to Catanzaro ahead of the 2014–15 Lega Pro season on 19 July 2014.
