Carroll High School is a private, coeducational high school located in Dayton, Ohio, United States. It is run by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati. It is sometimes referred to as Archbishop Carroll High School or Dayton Carroll. As of 2015, 750 students are enrolled at Carroll.[1]

History

Carroll High School is named for John Carroll (1735–1815), the first bishop and subsequently the first archbishop of the United States. The school opened its doors to students on August 18, 1961. Carroll's first class graduated May 31, 1965.

Clubs and activities

Carroll High School hosts Dayton's only student-run closed-circuit television station, Media 4 Carroll. Among reading the announcements, students write, film, and edit "Saturday Night Live" style skits involving fellow students and faculty members. School-wide broadcasts occur bi-weekly on Friday's and are televised on channel 4. Generous donations from alumni and various fund raising events allow the club to use top of the line video equipment. Media 4 Carroll owns two Canon GL-2 camcorders and two Power Mac G5 computers equipped with the Final Cut Pro software suite.

The school's Latin Club functions as a local chapter of both the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL)[2] and National Junior Classical League (NJCL).[3]

Athletics

Carroll's mascot is the Patriot. The Carroll Patriot teams compete in the school colors of red, white, and blue. Carroll, along with rival Archbishop Alter High School, is a member of the Greater Catholic League.

Carroll students participate in boys' and girls' sports, with the school's athletic reputation primarily owed to football and soccer. The Carroll football team has earned state playoff berths in each of the last 8 years, including two final-four appearances in the state playoffs in 2004 and 2005. The boys' soccer team played to three consecutive state championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012, the only boys' team to ever win three consecutive times in Ohio.

Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships:

  • Soccer – 1980, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012[4]

Other State Championships:

* 8 teams qualify each year in each division and compete in a bracketed dual meet tournament. This is not the official OHSAA sanctioned state tournament in Ohio, which Carroll has never in fact won. Some states have a larger, official dual meet state championship in addition to the normal wrestling tournament format.
