The category Queen's Counsel is for barristers appointed Queen's or King's Counsel (QC or KC), and other individuals appointed QC or KC honoris causa, who have been appointed by letters patent to be one of "Her [or His] Majesty's Counsel learned in the law". The first QC or KC was Sir Francis Bacon who was appointed in 1597.
