The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Help[1] (Spanish: Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Socorro)[2] or the Cathedral of Valencia[3] is the most important religious site and one of the most interesting tourist spots in the city of Valencia in Venezuela. Considered a National Historic Landmark, it is the official headquarters for the veneration of the Virgen del Socorro, which annually receives thousands of parishioners who attend devoutly to pay homage to the patron saint of Valencia.
In the beginning, the temple we know today was considered parish church, later in 1921 with the creation of the Diocese of the city of Valencia, it then became Cathedral. Later, Monsignor Adam in charge of the Diocese, the Cathedral was awarded the title of Minor Basilica granted by Pope John XXIII,[4] because of the great artistic value that has the sanctuary and especially for being the final resting place of the image of the Virgin Relief, which was held Canonical Coronation in 1910, and whose faith and devotion is followed by thousands of faithful.
