Charles S. Maier (born February 23, 1939, in New York City) is the Leverett Saltonstall Professor of History at Harvard University. He teaches European and international history at Harvard. Maier has also served as the director of the Center for European Studies at Harvard.
Books
Maier has written several books. Among these is Among Empires: American Ascendancy and its Predecessors (2006) and Dissolution: the Crisis of Communism and the End of East Germany (1997). He has also written on the Cold War, Holocaust controversies (The Unmasterable Past, 1988) and the 1920s (Recasting Bourgeois Europe, 1975).
