Chhota Bheem is an Indian animated comedy-adventure series. First premiered in 2008 on Pogo TV, it focuses on adventures of a boy named Bheem & his friends in fictional city-state of Dholakpur.[2] In this series Bheem & his friends are usually involved in protecting king Indravarma of Dholakpur to save the city-state from various evil forces. Sometimes they are seen helping other Kingdoms as well. It is one of the popular animated series in India which is loved by many people.

The series Chotta Bheem was created by Rajiv Chilaka, CEO of Green Gold Animation. Raj Viswanadha, Arun Shendurnikar, Nidhi Anand, Shridisha Dilip have written stories. As of today more than 400 episodes,29 movies have been released and aired. [3]

Plot

The extremely strong Chhota Bheem lives in a fictional town called Dholakpur set in rural India. The series revolves around Bheem, a nine-year-old boy, who is brave, strong and intelligent.[4] Bheem's rival is Kalia Pehalwan, a jealous ten -year-old bully, who is envious of Bheem's popularity. Kalia, along with his sidekicks Dholu and Bholu, always plot to embarrass and defeat Bheem but never succeed. The story revolves around Bheem and his friends and their rivalry with Kalia and his friends. All the children of Dholakpur look up to Bheem, as he solves everyone's problems. He is also seen defeating some enemies in and around Dholakpur like the evil demon Kirmada, Kichak & Mangal Singh. Bheem earns the trust of Dholakpur and Raja Indravarma. Chhota Bheem's title track has become extremely popular and can be seen anywhere and everywhere as people singing and dancing and forgetting ALL and playing only! Like pipe piper of Germany! The notes for the SUPERHIT flute tune was given by Raj Mohan Sinha but this has neither been credited nor acknowledged anywhere. Sinha's other musical notes were also used in many of Chhota Bheem movies. It is also believed that the concept or basic premise of Bheem was done by two well-known writers who have also been unnamed for some strange and sad reason.

Characters

  • Chhota Bheem: Bheem is an adventurous and fun-loving 9-year-old boy who is gifted with extraordinary strength (his character is a take-off on Bheem character from the epic Mahabharat). This power is a boon for Dholakpur, Bheem's village, which is constantly beset by all kinds of perils. This child has a big heart and he always uses his strength to help those who are poor, wronged or needy. He is seen as a guardian of the innocent and poor people and also the animals. He is the protector of the world. Bheem loves food and has a certain craving for laddoos, which in fact, gives him a surge of energy and makes him even stronger than he normally is. These laddoos are often offered by Chutki. He has three main friends called Chutki, Jaggu (a monkey) and Raju.
  • Chutki: Chutki is a seven-year-old girl. She is Bheem's closest friend, and assists Bheem on their adventures. While she is responsible about her household chores and gentle towards all creatures of the forest, she can be tough too, when the situation demands it. Surprisingly, she is seen greedy for taking gold in the episode "The Curse of Bramhbhatt-Part 2". She has a soft spot for Bheem and often becomes angry whenever Bheem interacts with any girl as can be seen in episodes. She also has many ideas or tricks to help Bheem in many of his adventures as seen in the episodes "Pirates on the ship", and "Hercules".
  • Raju: Raju is a cute and courageous four-year-old kid, whose role model is Bheem. Raju’s size belies his courage, which he gets from his father, the Senapati (chief officer) of the King’s army. • Dholu and Bholu: Dholu and Bholu are identical twins and followers of Kalia Pahelwan. Though they are not strong themselves, they bask in Kalia’s strength and are arrogant with the other kids. Theatrical releases

Box office collection over 5 crores Running time 87.8 minutes Ratings 5.2

CHHOTA BHEEM HIMALYAN ADVENTURE was released on cinemas on the 8th of Janurary 2016 with with poor reviews. While praising the 'efforts' of Greengold for making an animation movie most reviewers have give only 2 to 2.5 stars out of 5 and criticized the writing --- too simple and straightforward story and too much reliance on 'fun and games', which Greengold tried to sell-off by claiming to be 'deliberately simple'. While Madhu Trehan, founding editor of India Today, founder of Newstrack, Senior Journalist and writer lambasted the movie for being too violent and senseless and which promotes stereotypes, most other reviews in media have been much more kinder and gentle. Reflecting the same single mindset - not discourage or be harsh on kids and animation while at the same, like Trehan, time not mincing any words in giving a true account of the movie's many shortcomings. The use of old 2D animation in a time and age where latest cutting edge technology and R&D is being used by studios everywhere is reported as the primary reason for the poor ratings and indicative of a the larger debacle that is now sure to follow - just like the case was with Greengold's past releases. Made at a budget of 6 crore and with Sankaranti approaching - when the competition will become hot with newer entrants - the chances of CHHOTA BHEEM HIMALYAN ADVENTURE recovering even its production cost looks extremely slim.
