The Chief of the General Staff, India was a senior military commander in India from 1904 to Indian Independence in 1947.

History

The Chief of the General Staff, India assisted the Commander-in-Chief, India in commanding the Indian Armed Forces. He was effectively Head of the Army reporting to the Commander-in-Chief who was the overall head of the Indian Armed Forces.[1] The post was replaced by that of Commander-in-Chief, Army in 1947 and then by that of Chief of the Army Staff in 1955.[2]
