Cornwall County Cricket Club

Cornwall County Cricket Club is one of twenty minor county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Cornwall.

The team is currently a member of the Minor Counties Championship Western Division and plays in the MCCA Knockout Trophy. Cornwall played List A matches occasionally from 1970 until 2004 but is not classified as a List A team per se.[1]

The club is based at St Levan, Penzance, and plays matches around the county at Roskear in Camborne, Falmouth, Boscawen Park in Truro and at the Wheal Eliza ground in St Austell.

History and notable players

Earliest cricket

Cricket probably reached Cornwall during the 18th century, possibly sooner and a county organisation is known to have existed in 1813 (see Bowen) and this is the earliest reference to cricket in the county. The first cricket club in Cornwall was known as the Cornish Cricket Club of Truro and later became Truro Cricket Club.

Origin and history of CCC

The present Cornwall CCC was founded on 12 November 1894 and first competed in the Minor Counties Championship in 1904, appearing every year since with the exception of 1920. Cornwall won the Minor Counties Championship for the first time in their history in 2012, beating Buckinghamshire in the final. They have never won the MCCA Knockout Trophy since its inception in 1983.
