Costanera Norte (Spanish: Northern bank road) is a 43 km privatized expressway (autopista urbana) in Chile, connecting northern Santiago from east to west, along the northern bank of the Mapocho River, using an electronic toll collection system. It was inaugurated on 12 April 2005.

The expressway connects Santiago's wealthiest districts with the downtown and the airport.

Flooding April 17 2016

Costanera Norte designed a river Channel of only 80 cubic metres per second for a river with capciaty of 1000 cubic metres per second. Whenwater generating 120 cubic meters per second fell in storms the resulting water flow generated flooding in several parts of providencia and central santiago.

Legal Action

The municipality of Providencia, the intendencia of santiago and possible class action law suits have been instigated following the April 17th 2016 flooding.
