Cyberforce is an Image Comics superhero team created by writer/artist Marc Silvestri in 1992.[1][2]


Publication history

Cyberforce was a comic book series created by Marc Silvestri. Initially written and illustrated by Silvestri, his work was succeeded by other comic book artists including David Finch.

The comic was originally published as a four-part mini-series through Homage Studios from 1992 to 1993.[citation needed] When Silvestri founded Top Cow Productions Cyberforce became a monthly series from 1994 to 1997. The first few issues crossed over with Wild C.A.T.s for the "Killer Instinct" story line.[citation needed]

In 2007, the series was relaunched, written by Ron Marz and drawn by Alex Milne.[citation needed].

On October 17, 2012, Top Cow debuted the fourth volume of a rebooted Cyberforce as part of the company's "Top Cow Rebirth" initiative. Made possible through a Kickstarter campaign, the first five issues were released for free.[3][4] Silvestri provided cyberpunk influenced art for the rebooted series while Khoi Pham was hired on as illustrator--marking an initial departure from Marvel Comics after five years of exclusive work.[5] The first issue received a positive review from Benjamin Bailey of IGN who noted that the post-apocalyptic setting was both interesting and genuine. Baily commented that he enjoyed the story's structure but the characters were not fully fleshed out. Nonetheless, the book itself offered readers sufficient reason to anticipate a second issue he hoped would focus more on character development. Commenting on Pham's art, Bailey cited some inconsistencies (particularly with respect to renderings of technology).[6]

On July 6, 2015, Top Cow announced that Cyberforce would be relaunched in Fall of 2015 as a digital-only series written by Matt Hawkins.[7][8]

Fictional team biography

Volumes one & two

The original comic book focused on a team of mutants who were captured by Cyberdata, an enormous corporation with ambitions of taking over the world, whose abilities were enhanced with cybernetic implants.[citation needed] The mutants escaped capture and banded together as Cyberforce, to defeat Cyberdata.[citation needed]

Volume three

The 2006 series began with the team's return from their final mission and centered on a confrontation with their alien forbearers.[citation needed] The team was treated to an updated look, a new base of operations, and changes to its roster.[citation needed] Heatwave, Stryker and Impact served as recurring characters throughout the series. Important subplots included the death of Impact and the initiation of a romantic relationship between Ripclaw and Velocity.[citation needed]

Volume four

In October 2012, a rebooted version of the comic was released that incorporated elements of cyberpunk.[citation needed]

1995–96 animated series

A half-hour Cyberforce animated series was planned for the 1995–96 season on Fox-TV as part of an hour-long block that would also have featured a Youngblood series.[9][10] Although completed character designs and a model sheet were featured in magazines, the series never progressed past the planning stages.[citation needed]
