DR Ramasjang is a Danish television channel owned by DR targeting aged 7-10.

The channel is named after the Danish word "ramasjang" which means a loud or festive uproar, similar to the English word hullabaloo.

History

DR presented their idea to launch a channel for children in 2005 in preparation for the new media settlement of 2006.

When the settlement was presented in June 2006, the plan was for the children's channel to broadcast in the daytime, while a history channel would broadcast in the evening.

In preparation for the launch of the new channel, DR concentrated their division for children's programmes, DR B&U, to Århus.[2]

Signe Lindkvist, who had participated in many children's programmes, was appointed as editor of the channel in 2008. By then, it had been decided that the children's channel and the historical channel would get separate channel spaces.

The name for the channel was revealed in March 2009. The channel would broadcast between 6am and 8pm every day of the year. It would target children between 3 and 10 years old, with a special focus on those between 7 and 10.[3] The channel launched on 1 November 2009, and is available on digital terrestrial television, satellite television and is considered a must-carry channel for cable networks.some programs are Nana, Specialklassen (now known as Osman og Jeppe), Gepetto News, Max, Bamses Billedbog, Emil fra Lønneberg, Mille, Store Nørd and Lille Nørd, Barda, Busters verden, Duksedrengen, Go, Guldregn, Isas stepz, Min funky familie, MGP (The Junior Eurovision Song Contest, now in Denmark changed to MGP Nordic, together with Norway, Denmark and Finland, due to them disliking the children dress out in adult's clothes etc.), Troldspejlet, SommerSummarum, Barbapapa, Kaninlandet, Gurli Gris, Penelope, Amigo, Kiki den lille heks, Fjernsyn fra da far var dreng, and Cowboy Indianer og Hest.

The idea of the historial channel was scrapped, and instead a rewinding footage of the hosts sleeping, with a message saying 'DR Ramasjang We will wake up in (time) hours and (time) minutes" were used.[4]
