Deep time is geologic time.

The term is also used in the following ways:

  • Deep Time is a phrase also used in experiential deep ecology workshops run by Joanna Macy, to express the approach of using guided meditations to visualise contact between ancestors and descendants of those involved in the exercise.
  • Deep Time or the zone is also used in artistic activity to refer to the experience of being lost in the act of creation or the consumption of a work [1]; authors may get into this state while writing, readers while reading.
  • The Zone: A sense of timelessness, the experience of unusual freedom within time, and unawareness of time, being "in the zone," is experienced by athletes in a variety of sports disciplines [2]: The Psychic Side of Sports (1978) and In the Zone: Transcendent Experience in Sports (1995) (Michael Murphy and Rhea White); Playing in the Zone: Exploring the Spiritual Dimensions of Sports (1998) (Andrew Cooper [3]).
