Desmond "Des" MacHale is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at University College Cork, Ireland.[1] [2]
He gained degrees at University College Galway and the University of Keele. MacHale is a prolific author on various subjects, most notably humour.[3][4] He has written twenty books of lateral thinking problems[5] with author Paul Sloane. He speaks on mathematics, humour and puzzles.[6] He is a native of Castlebar, County Mayo.
