Desaru means Village Of Casuarinas or palms. A malay word Desa which means village and “Ru” is the local name for Casuarinas. While Desaru may not be as secluded as it used to be, or as unpopulated, there is still an unspoiled and unmistakable pristine nature about the place. It's 22 kilometers of sand offer all the amenities or solitude anyone can expect, plus the added bonus of glistening waves on one side, and unspoiled jungle on the other.

Desaru is a beach and resort area in Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia. It is located approximately 88 kilometers east of Johor Bahru, on the South China Sea. It is a very popular weekend escape for residents of Singapore who come to enjoy the attractive 25 km stretch of beaches and splendid golf courses. The Desaru Golf & Country Resort is a popular establishment here.

Located near this beach is a town, Bandar Penawar, at which there are various Malaysian boarding schools including Sekolah Menengah Sains Kota Tinggi, Sekolah Sukan Bandar Penawar and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Bandar Penawar.

Transportation

Car and motorcycle is the fastest way to go to Desaru. The Senai-Desaru Expressway connects Desaru to Senai in 45 minutes.
