Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University(Hindi: डॉ राम मऩोहर लोहिया अवध विश्वविद्यालय) also known as Avadh University or Awadh University is one of the premier universities in India. It is on NH96 in Faizabad city of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) province. It was established in 1975 by the government of Uttar Pradesh.

History

Avadh University

The government of Uttar Pradesh, established Avadh University, Faizabad, initially as an affiliating university by its notification No. 1192/fifteen-10-46(6)-1975 dated 4 March 1975 and appointed Prof.(Dr.) Surendra Singh as the first Vice chancellor. In 1993-94, it was renamed as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad in the memoriam of late Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, an epic socio-economic ideologue and freedom fighter par excellence.

The university initially started its office in a rental building at Civil Lines, Faizabad. Land acquisition process for varsity's formal office started in 1976. Ultimately, the then chancellor and governor of the state Shri G.D. Tapase laid foundation of the present administrative building of the varsity on 2 May 1978.

The university assumed the shape of an affiliating cum residential varsity in April 1984. The residential segment became functional with the opening of four PG departments in the campus viz. History, Culture & Archaeology, Economics & Rural Development, Mathematics & Statistics and Physics & Electronics. Four more departments viz. M.B.A, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology and Environmental Sciences were added to its academic paraphernalia in 1993-94 which in-turn brought recognition of the varsity under 12B scheme of U.G.C.

In 2000-01, Institute of Engineering & Technology was established on the campus with B.Tech. (in Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Sciences and Electronics & Communication Engineering) and M.C.A. courses. In the same year, some other courses like M.C.J., M.S.W., B.Lib. and M.Lib. were also added to widen the academic spectrum of the residential setup. In addition, a number of PG programs like M.Sc-Biotechnology, M.T.A., M.P.Ed., M.Ed. and UG programs like B.B.A., B.C.A. and B.P.Ed. became functional on the campus from the session 2005-06.

Presently, the university is catering education to about 7 lakhs regular/private student through its nine residential PG departments and on campus Institute of Engineering along-with more than 400 affiliated colleges spread over in the 10 districts of Faizabad, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Barabanki, Balrampur, Baharaich, Shravasti, Amethi and Gonda

Campus and infrastructure

The university is spread over an area of 112.24 acres. It has 23 buildings which include the administration building, Kautilya administration building, examination building, an under-construction auditorium, health centre, central library, entrance examination cell, Physics and Electronics building, guest house, IT centre etc.

It has four boys' hostels and faculty housing.

Departments and Institutes

Institute of Engineering Technology (IET)

The institute established during the year 2000 has emerged as one of the leading institutions of the state imparting Bachelor of Technology / Engineering Education. The Institute is also known as "IET Dr. RML Avadh University, Faizabad". The institute is having well equipped laboratories of various disciplines viz. Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering. The institute also offers M. C. A. course. The institute is located at a very beautiful site having good landscape view. The admission in B. Tech. / M. C. A. courses are done on the basis of entrance examination conducted by UP Technical University, Lucknow. The in take in B. Tech. Course is 60 in each discipline and 60 seats are for M.C.A.. The institute is recognized and approved by AICTE.

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering

The Department offers B.Tech. (EC) programmes, and the number of students intake is 60 every year. The success rate at examinations and employment are fairly impressive in the present scenario. The thrust areas of the Department included Digital System Design, DSP, Microwave Engineering, CDMA Communication, PC based Instrumentation & Calibration system. The major focus of the Department in teaching and research has been on subjects of DSP and Digital system Design. The Department has Computers and sophisticated instruments as well. There is a plan of action to achieve the aims by way of future plans by enhancing its laboratory facilities.The Electronics & Communication Engineering course provides comprehensive knowledge of the subject through coverage of relevant and contemporary issues. The focus is on sharpening analytical as well as designing skills and problem-solving abilities based on sensitivity to the rapidly changing environment, and a firm grasp of right values. The course structure is dynamic and is reviewed periodically to strengthen existing courses and introduce new ones in keeping with the requirements of the environment. A variety of individual and group learning projects that provide the participants with exposure to real - world instrumentation issue.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department offers B.Tech. and the number of students intake is 60 every year. The success rate at examinations and employment rate are fairly impressive in the present scenario. The thrust areas of the Department included Strength of materials and non conventional energy sources. The major focus of the Department is in teaching and research . The Department has Computers, well equipped Cad Lab, workshops, and other Labs as well. There is a plan of action to achieve the aims by way of future plans like enhancing its laboratory facilities.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering

The Department of Computer Science offers B.Tech. programme, and the number of students intake is 60 every year. The success rate at examinations and Respectively and employment are fairly impressive in the present scenario. The thrust areas of the Department included Computer Networking, Fault Tolerance, Software Engineering, Database, Computer Architecture. The major focus of the Department in teaching and research has been on Networking, Database and Software Engineering. The Department has Computers and various licensed software’s. There is a plan of action to achieve the aims by way of future plans like enhancing its laboratory facilities.

The Department of information Technology offers B.Tech(IT) programme, and the number of students intake is 60 every year. The success rate at examinations and respectively and employment rate are fairly impressive in the present scenario. The thrust areas of the Department included Computer e, Software Engineering, Database. the Department has Computers and various licensed software’s. There is a plan of action to achieve the aims by way of future plans like enhancing its laboratory facilities.The main objective of the department is to produce good quality engineers/technocrats as well as good human beings. Department have well qualified and vibrant faculty dedicated for the betterment of the students. Most of the students passed out are well placed or have opted for higher studies.
