Drozhzhanovsky District (Russian: Дрожжановский райо́н; Tatar: Чүпрәле районы) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the southwest of the republic. The area of the district is 1,029.5 square kilometers (397.5 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Staroye Drozhzhanoye.[2] Population: 25,753 (2010 Census);[4] 27,800 (2002 Census);[7] 30,185 (1989 Census).[8] The population of Staroye Drozhzhanoye accounts for 12.5% of the district's total population.[4]
