Dumitru Popescu Colibași Sports Hall is an indoor sporting arena located in Brașov, Romania, with a total capacity of 1,700 seats (with side stands only).[1][2] It is known locally simply as the Sports Hall (Romanian: Sala Sporturilor),[3] and is primarily used by the women's handball team Corona Brașov,[4] and occasionally by the basketball club CSU Brașov.[5] It also hosts cultural events, such as concerts.[6]
Renovation
It was renovated between 2011 and April 2013, the works bringing the total capacity to 1,700 seats, extending the outside parking capacity, as well as giving it a more modern exterior look.[2] In 2007, an additional second stand was added.[7]
Events
Among the major events it hosted are the men's tennis games between Romania and Belarus, in the 2005 Davis Cup World Group, played on clay,[8] and between Romania and the Netherlands, in the 2013 Davis Cup Europe Zone, played on a hard surface.[9]
In women's handball, it hosted several continental competition games played by Rulmentul Brașov (the former name of Corona Brașov), such as the Challenge Cup final in the 2005–06 season, the Cup Winners' Cup final in the 2007–08 season, or in the EHF Cup, the games up to the quarter-final round in the 2006–07 season and or the semi-finals in the 2008–09 season.[10]
