Emoticons is a Unicode block containing graphic representations of faces, which are often associated with classic emoticons. They exist largely for compatibility with Japanese telephone carriers' implementations of Shift JIS.

All of the characters in the Emoticons block are emoji.[2][3]

Diversity

The Emoticons block has eight emoji that represent people or body parts. They can be modified using U+1F3FBโ€“U+1F3FF to provide for a range of skin tones using the Fitzpatrick scale:[3]
