In most major <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/auto_racing" class="extiw" title="w:auto racing">auto races</a>, a marshal will wave this flag to tell a lapped driver to allow faster traffic to pass him or her. In the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IndyCar" class="extiw" title="w:IndyCar">w:IndyCar</a> series, if the starter waves two of these flags, it orders a driver to yield to faster traffic or face a <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Auto_Racing_Black.svg" title="File:Auto Racing Black.svg">black flag</a>.
