Summary

Two drawings of the "Scenes of Hazing", as printed in the 1880 Massachusetts Agricultural College yearbook. It is important to note that such behavior was not condoned by many of the faculty of the time (though this cannot be said of all) and is considered as ground for criminal charges and expulsion by the University of Massachusetts today. This image is here for historical purposes representing the student culture at the beginning of the land-grant college organization and is by no means shown here to encourage such behavior or intentionally tarnish the reputations of the present-day institutions. The Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 269, §17-19, make hazing and any similar acts a criminal offense.
