Sir John Carew Eccles (1903-1997), Australian neurophysiologist and Nobel laureate, using a microscope in a laboratory. Eccles was knighted in 1958. Eccles shared the 1963 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Andrew Fielding Huxley and Alan Lloyd Hodgkin.
