Summary
Edo-era boundaries of Dejima island (outlined in red) within the modern city of Nagasaki. The city has long since enveloped and surrounded the former island. A portion of the former island has been permanently demolished to widen the river at the top of the picture. This photograph is taken from a sign posted at Dejima and shows the current state of reconstruction work as Dutch-era buildings are currently being restored one by one based upon old pictures and models. Taken by Keith Finch, December 30, 2004.
