The town is built on the fringes of hills rising above the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerset_Levels" class="extiw" title="en:Somerset Levels">en:Somerset Levels</a>. To the right is Glastonbury Tor and to the left, Wearyall Hill where one of the Glastonbury thorns grows. Most of the town lies behind this hill.
