Summary
Ice cube grown from tap water in a standard household deep freeze. The top of the cube (the initial air-water interface) is up in this photograph. Growth proceeded from the top and both sides (the clear zones), systematically expelling the water's air content toward the centre and bottom of the cube. The white zone is where a lot of this air eventually became entrapped as tiny bubbles.
