Summary

Close-up the Christ Pantocrator in the dome of San Nicolò dei Greci in Palermo, Sicily. The church is also known as Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio and the Martorana. It is the episcopal see of one the eparchies of the Italo-Greek Catholic Church. Albeit, now in communion with the Church of Rome (the Roman Catholic Church), it was built by the Church of Constantinople (Greek Orthodox Church) in 1143, after the Great Schism. It was returned to the Greek Orthodox in 1935 for a short time by Benito Mussolini ultimately returning to the Italo-Greek Catholic Church.
