Beato（ 1833年～ 1907年)。 </p> <p>The scene of the crucifixion was photographed in the early <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meiji_period" class="mw-redirect" title="Meiji period">Meiji era</a> (19th century), by Felice A. Beato (1833 ~1907). </p> <p>磔にされているのは壮吉という25歳の奉公人で、盗賊団を店に手引きして主人一家を殺させたという。 </p> <p>The convict was Sokichi(壮吉), a 25-year-old shop employee. He brought a band of robbers into the shop, and they killed the shop owner and owner's family. </p> <p>盗賊団は斬首の上で獄門に処せられたが、壮吉は主人殺しの重罪であったため、1人だけ磔にされたものである。 </p> <p>While other robbers were simply beheaded, Sokichi was sentenced crucifixion, because murdering his master was considered as a specially serious crime that deserves the extreme penalty. </p> <p>撮影場所は横浜の闇坂（くらやみざか～「鞍止坂」と書くこともある） 刑場と伝えられている。 </p> <p>The location is reported as Kurayamizaka(闇坂, or 鞍止坂 in another way of writing), Yokohama. </p> <p>なお、人工的に着色されて絵葉書にして販売されていたものであるが、元の写真は当然モノクロであるため、カラー情報を削除した。 </p> The color information has been discarded though the original picture was artificially colored.
