File:Kasei Valles THEMIS flow features.jpg
Summary
View of streamlined landforms on Mars, carved by catastrophic floods, just east of the 100 km diameter crater <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharonov_(Martian_crater)" class="extiw" title="w:Sharonov (Martian crater)">Sharonov</a>, which divided the flow into the two main channels seen entering at upper and lower left. In a several cases, crater rims form the heads of tadpole-shaped "islands" left behind by erosion. Impact crater ejecta deposits intrude onto a channel floor at lower left.
This scene is a segment of a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_Emission_Imaging_System" class="extiw" title="w:Thermal Emission Imaging System">THEMIS</a> daytime infrared image mosaic showing <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasei_Valles" class="extiw" title="w:Kasei Valles">Kasei Valles</a>, a large system of martian outflow channels, and its surroundings. Kasei Valles is situated north of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valles_Marineris" class="extiw" title="w:Valles Marineris">Valles Marineris</a> canyon system. It drains eastward into <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chryse_Planitia" class="extiw" title="w:Chryse Planitia">Chryse Planitia</a>. North is at the top.
