The lion statues outside the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Public_Library_Main_Branch" class="extiw" title="w:New York Public Library Main Branch">Main Branch</a> building of the New York Public Library are among the most famous landmarks in New York City. The lions were designed by sculptor <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Edward_Clark_Potter" title="Edward Clark Potter">Edward Clark Potter</a> in 1911, and were carved from Tennessee Pink marble by New York'sin 1916. As you face the main entrance to the building, the lion on the left is named Patience, and the lion on the right is named Fortitude. The statue in the photo is Fortitude.
