The bandshell is named after African-American Geogie M. Goode, an author, educator and activist. She was the wife of Calvin C. Goode, who served a total of twenty-two years, as a representative to the Phoenix, Arizona City Council. The bandshell is listed in the Phoenix Historic Property Register.
