Summary

Lt. John Irving,R.N. (1815-1848/49) died whilst serving aboard HMS Terror during the ill-fated Franklin expedition which set out in 1845 to navigate the Northwest Passage. His grave was found later on King William Island by US Army Lt. Frederick Schwatka and his body returned to Edinburgh for burial in 1881.
