File:Tasmania logging 10 Styx Devastation.jpg
Summary
Tasmania, Styx Valley, Devastation caused by logging. Clear felled forest prior to bulldozing and burning. The remains that are left on the ground include all smaller trees, because the trucks are designed to carry only large logs between the prime-mover and bogey wheels. The tops of the trees and the bases of the trees are bulldozed and burnt. They are not the "waste" that is wood chipped. The "waste" that is woodchipped is the long trunks of all the taller trees (up to 85 metres, 280 feet). These are designated as "waste" because they are often hollow and knotty. Trees that are taller than any tree on the Eurasian continent are legally logged for woodchip.
